Live performance

Critical reception

The single was reviewed in the August 5, 1978 issue of Billboard magazine. The review said, "Tasty piano work surrounds Parton's crystal clear vocals as she opens this popish ballad that will again bring her to the attention of programmers across the board. Acoustic and electric guitars and strings enter at timely points continuously building the song to a strong climactic ending."

Cashbox also reviewed the single in their August 5, 1978 issue. It said, "This single, previously released by Randy Burley on ABC, should be another pop vehicle for Dolly, yet not offend country admirers. DJ copies pressed in red vinyl will attract a lot of attention."
