Back in January 2020 Sam Williams posted a picture with Dolly. His caption said he had given her a song he wrote and speculation grew that the two had recorded a duet for Williams' debut album. Originally to be released independently, Glasshouse Children was announced earlier this year, but the release was delayed a little after Williams was signed to UMG Nashville. The album is now scheduled to be released on August 20, 2021. The official announcement of the duet was quietly slipped into the Bio section on Williams' page on the UMG Nashville website. The duet titled "Happy All the Time" was written by Williams and Mary Gauthier.
Williams said it wasn't until Dolly entered the picture that his debut album really began to take shape. "I had this song called 'Happy All The Time' that I’d been sitting on for a couple years. I'd always envisioned Dolly singing on it, so I wrote her this two-page letter on an old typewriter, and when it finally got to her, she loved the track and said she’d be honored to record on it. That changed everything for me, because suddenly I had this duet with Dolly Parton on my hands, and I knew I was going to have to really push myself if I wanted to write an album of songs powerful enough to stand alongside that."
Williams' new single "Kids" is his fifth from the upcoming album and is scheduled to be released Friday, July 16, along with the album's pre-order and full track listing.
