"O Chestnut Tree" is a single by Dolly Parton. It was released in September 2012 as a free download from The American Chestnut Foundation website. The website required users to signup for their newsletter to receive the download. The song was written by Dolly to honor her uncle Bill Owens. Bill had a lifelong interest in bringing back the endangered chestnut tree to the Great Smoky Mountains. In her eulogy to her uncle, Dolly said he and his wife had planted an estimated 70,000 chestnut trees on Dollywood property.
