9 to 5: The Musical (Original Broadway Cast Recording) is a cast recording by the cast of the musical. It was released digitally on July 14, 2009, by Dolly Records, with the physical release following on July 28. The musical is based on the 1980 film of the same name, in which Dolly starred alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. Dolly composed the music and lyrics for the broadway production. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard Top Cast Albums chart. ​The album was nominated for Best Musical Show Album at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards.

​The album was recorded at Legacy Recording Studios in New York City.

Release

​The album was first released July 14, 2009, as a digital download. The CD was also available to purchase on this date exclusively at the show on Broadway in New York City. The CD was released to retail stores two weeks later on July 28.

Commercial performance

The album debuted at number four on the Billboard Top Cast Albums chart dated August 1. It peaked at number three on the chart dated August 15, its third week on the chart. The album charted for eight weeks. It also peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart and number 130 on the Billboard 200.

Accolades

The album was nominated for Best Musical Show Album at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2010. 9 to 5: The Musical was nominated for Best Original Score at the 63rd Tony Awards in 2009 and won Best Original Score at the Theatre Fans' Choice Awards in 2009. It was also nominated for Outstanding Lyrics and Outstanding Music at the Drama Desk Awards in 2009, Best Musical Score at the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards in 2009, and Best Book/Lyrics/Music for an Original Musical at the 2009 Ovation Awards.

"Get Out and Stay Out" won the Broadway.com Audience Award for Favorite New Broadway Song in 2009.
