The album debuted at number four on the Billboard Top Cast Albums chart dated August 1. It peaked at number three on the chart dated August 15, its third week on the chart. The album charted for eight weeks. It also peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Independent Albums chart and number 130 on the Billboard 200.

The album was nominated for Best Musical Show Album at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2010. 9 to 5: The Musical was nominated for Best Original Score at the 63rd Tony Awards in 2009 and won Best Original Score at the Theatre Fans' Choice Awards in 2009.
