Porter Wagoner
One for the Road Fire (1-200) 1983
Note: Although it was not released until 1983, this was the very first studio recording of "Coat of Many Colors", recorded by Porter in April 1969 with Dolly providing harmony vocals. Dolly first performed the song live in April 1970 at Sevierville High School during the performance that would become the 1970 live album A Real Live Dolly (though this live recording would not be released until 2003). Dolly's studio version would be recorded in April 1971 and released as a single in September. |

Always Tomorrow Airborne (unreleased) 1989
Notes: This album was recorded in 1988 and 1989 for Airborne Records. One of the tracks was released as a single in 1988, ("I Don't Miss You Like I Used To") but the album was never released. Stella would eventually release the album in the early 2000s on CD through her website, and later as a digital download on all digital music platforms. Notes from Stella's website: "This is a CD I recorded for another label that went bankrupt before I got the album finished. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Anyway, I thought it was a good album. We had some good songs, great pickers and Steve Messer engineered and helped me produce. We had a lot of fun and high expectations of getting my recording career back on track. I was lucky enough to secure these masters on a trip to the Midem Music Festival from a record company that had licensed them from my bankrupt record company. Again, they came back home to me just like lost children. I recorded this project at LSI Studios in Nashville." — Stella Parton (May 10, 2008) |
Porter Wagoner
Pure Gold Porter Wagoner (PW-1991-CD) 1991
Note: There are two different mixes of "Mother Church". The version on Pure Gold features quieter choir-style backing vocals, while the version used in the music video and released on Porter's 2007 album Best of Grand Old Gospel 2008 features louder backing vocals where individual members voices can be heard. |
