"Comin' for to Carry Me Home" is a single by Dolly Parton. It was released on March 15, 1971, by RCA Victor. It is a new arrangement by Dolly of the traditional gospel song, "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot". The single was produced by Bob Ferguson. It peaked at number 23 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Recording

"Comin' for to Carry Me Home" was recorded on January 25 and February 15, 1971, at RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee. "The Golden Streets of Glory" was recorded on May 11, 1970, and had previously been released on Dolly's album of the same name.

Audio


Critical reception

Billboard reviewed the single in the March 27, 1971 issue. The review described the single as "an exciting updating of the classic."

The March 27, 1971 issue of Cashbox also contained a review of the single. It read, "Dolly's follow-up to the sensational "Joshua" track is the traditional "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" tune rearranged and performed like you've never heard it before. Here's Dolly's next number one record."

Commercial performance

The single debuted at number 72 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart dated April 10, 1971. It peaked at number 23 on the chart dated May 22, its seventh week on the chart. It charted for 12 weeks. It also peaked at number 18 on the Cashbox Country Singles chart.
