Background
Dolly co-wrote "Daddy Come and Get Me" with her aunt Dorothy Jo Hope. The song was inspired by a story they heard about a woman they knew from back home in the Smokies whose husband was having an affair. The woman was so distraught over this, that the husband had her committed to a mental institution. The woman didn't have anyone much on her side to keep it from happening and it was clear her husband had her institutionalized to get her out of his way.

"Daddy Come and Get Me" was recorded on October 31, 1969, at RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee, while "Chas" was recorded the day before.
