Critical reception

The single was reviewed in the July 3, 1993 issue of Billboard magazine. The review said, "From the vividly candid opening line to the end of the chorus, this is a smooth, heartfelt affirmation of constancy."

The following week, Cashbox reviewed the single in their July 10, 1993 issue. It said, "The third single from Slow Dancing with the Moon, "Full Circle" was co-written by Parton and friend Mac Davis, and co-produced by Parton and Steve Buckingham. It's a mid-tempo song touching on the theme of complex adult relationships. Good choice for a single."
