Joyful Noise (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the soundtrack album to the 2012 movie of the same name. It was released on January 10, 2012, by WaterTower Music. Dolly stars in the film and composed original music for the soundtrack. The album peaked at number one on the Billboard Soundtrack Albums chart. The album's two singles, "He's Everything" and "From Here to the Moon and Back" at number 15 and number two, respectively, on the Billboard Gospel Digital Song Sales chart.

Recording

The soundtrack was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, California; Silent Sound Studios in Atalanta, Georgia; The Bridge Recording in Glendale, California; Leapyear Studio; and Luminous Sound in Dallas, Texas.

Dolly would re-record "From Here to the Moon and Back" in 2013 with Willie Nelson. It was released as a single from his To All the Girls... album. This recording would also be included on Dolly's 2014 album, Blue Smoke.

Release and promotion

​The soundtrack was released January 10, 2012, on CD, digital download, and streaming.

Singles

"He's Everything" was released as the first single from the soundtrack on October 28, 2011. It peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Gospel Digital Song Sales chart dated January 28, 2012, and charted for 20 weeks.

The second single, "From Here to the Moon and Back", was released on July 6, 2012. It peaked at number two on both the Billboard Christian Digital Song Sales chart and the Gospel Digital Song Sales chart, both dated June 16. It charted for five weeks and 20 weeks, respectively.

Other charted songs

Several album tracks charted on Billboard digital sales charts. "Man in the Mirror" peaked at number seven on the Billboard Christian Digital Sales chart and number two on the Billboard Gospel Digital Sales chart. "Maybe I'm Amazed" peaked at number 19 on the Billboard Christian Digital Sales chart and number three on the Billboard Gospel Digital Sales chart. "Fix Me, Jesus" peaked at number 19 on the Billboard Gospel Digital Sales chart. "That's the Way God Planned It" peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Gospel Digital Sales chart. "Higher Medley" ​peaked at number four on the Billboard Christian Digital Sales chart and number one on the Billboard Gospel Digital Sales chart.

Commercial performance

The album debuted and peaked at number one on the Billboard Soundtrack Albums chart dated January 28, 2012, where it remained for two additional weeks. It charted for 25 weeks. The album also peaked at number one on the Billboard Top Christian Albums chart and and the Billboard Gospel Albums chart. It peaked at number two on the Billboard Independent Albums chart.

It charted at number 25 on the Billboard Soundtrack Albums year-end chart for 2012, number 15 on the Billboard Top Christian Albums year end chart for 2012, and number 7 on the Billboard Gospel Albums year-end chart for 2012 and number 31 on the year end chart for 2013.
