"Just Someone I Used to Know" is a single by Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton. It was released on September 29, 1969, by RCA Victor as the first single from their fourth collaborative studio album, Porter Wayne and Dolly Rebecca. It was written by Jack Clement and produced by Bob Ferguson. The single peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. "Just Someone I Used to Know" was nominated for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group at the 12th Annual Grammy Awards.

Recording

"Just Someone I Used to Know" was recorded on April 21, 1969, at RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee, during a session for Porter and Dolly's previous album, Always, Always. "My Hands Are Tied" was recorded on April 23, 1969, and was included on Always, Always.

Critical reception

The single was reviewed by Billboard in the October 11, 1969 issue. The review said, "The duo comes up with another top ballad performance that will take them right to the top again."

Cashbox also reviewed the single. Their review said, "The popular twosome's last single placed in the top ten on the country chart, and there's no reason to believe that this modern outing won't follow suit."

Commercial performance

​"Just Someone I Used to Know" debuted at number 62 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart dated October 25, 1969. It peaked at number five on the chart dated December 13, its eighth week on the chart. The single charted for 16 weeks. It also peaked at number three on the Cashbox Country Singles chart. The single peaked at number 20 in Canada on the RPM Country Singles chart.

Accolades

 "Just Someone I Used to Know" earned a nomination for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group at the 12th Annual Grammy Awards in 1970.
