Critical reception

The single was reviewed in the June 13, 1992 issue of Billboard magazine. The review said, "Second offering from the soundtrack to Parton's recent film Straight Talk is a euphoric slice of pop/country. Uplifting lyrics are enlivened by her energetic and sincere delivery, as well as a knee-slappin' arrangement that includes bright harmonica lines, banjos, and choir backing vocals. A country smash in the making that deserves play at AC radio, too."
