The song was written by Jerry Butler, Galvin Carter, and Curtis Mayfield. It was produced by Val Garay. The song was previously recorded as "He Don't Love You (Like I Love You)" by Tony Orlando and Dawn and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1975.
