Critical reception

The single was reviewed in the March 28, 1992 issue of Billboard magazine. The review said, "Theme song from Parton's new film of the same name is a rollicking, guitar-dominated ditty that is enhanced by her distinctive voice and an infectious chorus. Will be embraced by loyal country fans, though pop and AC listeners may find track pleasing, too."
