Straight Talk (Music from the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the soundtrack album the film of the same name. It was released on March 31, by Hollywood Records. The album was produced by Gary Ladanyi and Dolly Parton. The album peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and number 138 on the Billboard 200. Three singles were released from the album: "Straight Talk", "Light of a Clear Blue Morning", and "Burning". The title track was the only one to chart, peaking at number 64 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Recording
The soundtrack was recorded at O'Henry's; The Enterprise in Burbank, California; Chicago Recording Co. in Chicago, Illinois; Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood; Westlake Audio in Los Angeles; and The Manor in Shipton-on-Cherwell, UK.
Dolly had previously recorded "Light of a Clear Blue Morning" for her 1977 album, New Harvest...First Gathering. She would revisit the song again for her 2003 album, For God and Country.

Release and promotion
The album was released March 31, 1992, on CD and cassette. It was released on LP exclusively in South Korea.
Singles
"Straight Talk" was released as the album's first single on March 16, 1992. It debuted at number 74 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart dated April 11. It peaked at number 64 on the chart dated April 18, its second week on the chart. The single charted for five weeks. It peaked at number 194 in Australia on the Kent Music Report. A music video directed by Dominic Orlando was released to accompany the single.
The second single, "Light of a Clear Blue Morning", was released on June 1, 1992, and failed to chart. The single's music video was directed by Mary Lambert.
"Burning", a duet with Les Taylor, was released as the third single on October 12, 1992, and failed to chart.

Critical reception
In a mixed review for AllMusic, Brian Mansfield gave the album 3 out of 5 stars. He said the "results vary, depending on how far Parton strays from her Appalachian roots" on the album. He praised Dolly's new version of "Light of a Clear Blue Morning", saying that it "polishes up nicely—all the L.A. glitz in the world can't hide the pure gospel beauty of that chorus." He criticized the title track as not "nearly as strong as Parton's other big movie hit, but the way she sings it makes it nearly irresistible," but he felt that even Dolly's "distinctive voice...can't save "Fish Out of Water" and "Thought I Couldn't Dance".
Commercial performance
The album debuted at number 38 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart dated April 18, 1992. It peaked at number 22 on the chart dated May 2, its third week on the chart. It charted for 12 weeks. The album also peaked at number 138 on the Billboard 200. It peaked at number 28 in Canada on the RPM Top Albums chart.
