"The Last Thing on Mind" is a single by Dolly Parton. It was released on February 16, 2023, by FLi Records and Budde Music, as the first single from I Am a Pilgrim: Doc Watson at 100, a compilation album celebrating Doc Watson's 100th birthday. The song was written by Tom Paxton and produced by Matthew Stevens. Dolly had previously recorded the song with Porter Wagoner in 1967 as their first single together.

Background

​Written and orignally recorded by Tom Paxton in 1964, "The Last Thing on My Mind" was Dolly and Porter Wagoner's first duet single in October 1967. Doc Watson recorded the song for his 1966 album, Southbound. Dolly and Doc performed the song together during MerleFest in 2001. In a press release Dolly said, "Doc Watson is everyone's hero and a great guitar player. Some say he is the absolute best, and I was honored to get to work with him a few times in my career."
