Critical reception

The single was reviewed in the May 31, 1975 issue of Cashbox magazine. The review said, "Lovely Ms. Parton has a Porter Wagoner produced next #1 contender. Vocals are hard driving on this tale of a lady seeker and the man her keeper. This one could go so far as to hit in the gospel field as well as all other markets."
