* The single version of "To Daddy" in the same as the version featured on the 1994 album, Heartsongs: Live from Home, except the audience applause has been removed.

Recording

The single is taken from Dolly's live album, Heartsongs: Live from Home, which was recorded on April 23 and 24, 1994, at the Celebrity Theater at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Dolly recorded a duet version of the song in 2008 with Tom Astor for his Alles klar - kein Problem! album.

Critical reception

The single was reviewed in the October 22, 1994 issue of Billboard magazine. The review said, "Parton delivers one of her classics with the help of a stellar backup band that includes background vocalists Alison Krauss and Rhonda Vincent. Culled from her just-released Heartsongs album, this live , all acoustic setting gives the song – and Parton's angelic voice – room to shine through."
