"To Know Him Is to Love Him" is a single by Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris. It was released on January 26, 1987, by Warner Bros. Records as the first single from the Trio album. The song was written by Phil Spector and produced by George Massenburg. Spector first recorded the song as a member of The Teddy Bears in 1958 and had a Billboard Hot 100 number one hit with it. The Trio's cover peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, becoming Dolly's twenty-first single to top the chart.

Music video

A music video directed by George Lucas (yes, THAT George Lucas) was released to accompany the single.

Critical reception

The single was reviewed in the February 7, 1987 issue of Billboard magazine. The review said, "This fourth-time-around rendition radiates with a trio of fine harmonizing vocalists; dreamy, delicate, and warming to the heart."

Cashbox also reviewed the single in their February 7, 1987 issue. It said, "The long-awaited and much-anticipated collaboration of three of America's favorite female singers is realized in this solid country reading of the Phil Spector song.
The trio, a familiar presence in a background capacity on many of their individual recordings, has a natural blend that makes it a perfect combination of voices, with just the right intensity and feeling."

Commercial performance

​"To Know Him Is to Love Him" debuted at number 48 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart dated February 21, 1987. It peaked at number one on the chart dated May 16, its thirteenth week on the chart. The single charted for 19 weeks. It also peaked at number one on the Cashbox Country Singles chart. The song peaked at number one in Canada on the RPM Country Singles chart and number 54 in Australia on the Kent Music Report.
