It was released on September 26, 2005, by Arista Nashville as the second single from Paisley's 2005 album, Time Well Wasted. It was written by George Teren and Rivers Rutherford. The single was produced by Frank Rogers. It peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, becoming Dolly's twenty-fifth song to top the chart. The collaboration won Music Event of the Year at the CMA Awards in 2006.

The music video was directed by Jim Shea and features Dolly holding a picture of her grandfather, Rev. Jake Owens, who had passed away in 1992.

The single debuted at number 81 on the Billboard Hot County Songs chart dated December 3, 2005. It peaked at number one on the chart dated February 25, 2006, its thirteenth week on the chart. It charted for 20 weeks. It also peaked at number 39 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single reached number two in Canada on the Radio & Records Country Singles chart.
