"When I Sing for Him" is a single by Dolly Parton. It was released on September 4, 1972, by RCA Victor as the second single from Dolly's tenth solo studio album, My Favorite Songwriter, Porter Wagoner. It was written by Porter and produced by Bob Ferguson.

Recording

"When I Sing for Him" was recorded on May 4, 1972, at RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee. The B-side, "Lord Hold My Hand", was recorded on May 13, 1970, and had previously been released on Dolly's 1971 album, The Golden Streets of Glory.

Critical reception

The single was reviewed in the September 16, 1972 issue of Cashbox. The review said, "Porter Wagoner's prettier half performs one of his compositions as a solo effort that is sure to hit the charts just as successfully as her previous country hits. A strong, inspirational sound."
